We’re doughing our bit for the local community!

BOSSES at Cardwell Garden Centre have ‘scone’ beyond the call of duty to help the local community during the current coronavirus pandemic.

Despite the centre being closed for business, the centre’s Patio Restaurant manager, Bernadette Sime came back to the kitchens on her own to bake dozens of plain and fruit scones.

Now the famous Cardwell treats, which are hugely popular with visitors, have been enjoyed by patients and staff at Ardgowan Hospice, in Greenock and volunteers at Belville Community Garden, who are making up food supply boxes for families who need them most during the current crisis.

Bernadette was also able to source large catering-sized bags of Kellogg’s Cornflakes for the Belville Community Garden.

Liz Irvine, Ardgowan Hospice Clinical Services Support and Information Manager sent Cardwell a message on Facebook which read: “Thank you so much for the beautiful home baked scones you sent to Ardgowan Hospice. They were delicious and helped us through the day.”

Cardwell director, Drew Gallagher said: “It was very thoughtful of Bernadette to come in to the restaurant and bake the scones. I’m sure they were very tasty as usual.

“We’re closed due to the current COVID-19 restrictions on business and unnecessary travelling, so we can’t make deliveries of gardening products either to customers, or as donations to groups and organisations.

“But we’re doing all we can to help our local community.”
