Mystery as Cardwell gnome is kidnapped!
MOVIE sleuth Sherlock Gnomes has a new mystery to solve after a garden gnome was kidnapped from the popular Cardwell Garden Centre.
Bosses at the centre, near Gourock were shocked when they turned up yesterday morning to find one of their favourite gnomes, Sammy the Spade had mysteriously disappeared and a cryptic note had been left in his place.
The message read: “We’ve got your Sammy and he’s coming on a world tour with us. We’ll send you photos. We might bring him back and then again, we might not. Gnome one knows!”
Cardwell’s retail general manager, Paul Carmichael was near to tears as he explained: “Our customers love looking at Sammy the Spade – named because he was always digging with a spade – and his twin brother, Digger as they would always be on the bridge over the stream that runs through the garden centre.
“When I arrived at Cardwell for work, Sammy was missing and a note was left pinned to the bridge telling us our gnome had been kidnapped and was being held hostage at various places around the world.”
Later in the day, a photograph of Sammy outside Glasgow Airport was sent to Cardwell.
Paul suspects the kidnapping may be linked to a weekend of family fun events planned for Cardwell, on May 12 and 13 (10am-4pm) to celebrate the release of the new movie, Sherlock Gnomes, which previews this weekend and goes on general release on Friday, May 11.
Paul says: “We’re having a Sherlock Gnomes Weekend with lots of fun activities for kids like gnome-themed arts and crafts, bouncy castle, face painting and a gnome hunt.
“Now the movie is in the cinemas, we’re trying to contact Sherlock Gnomes to ask him to investigate Sammy the Spade’s kidnapping.
“We really need Sammy back for the Sherlock Gnomes Weekend and if anyone has any information that would lead to Sammy being rescued, we’ll give them a reward.”
