Will darling buds of May be blooming at Cardwell again soon?

 In News

Hello there folks. We’ve been missing you all coming to visit us at Cardwell and can’t wait to welcome you back to our garden centre. We hope everyone is keeping safe and well.

We’ve had lots of enquiries asking when we are going to re-open, or if we can operate an order-and-collect and a delivery service. Hopefully, that day might not be too far away.

I’m sure you’ve all seen media reports that lockdown conditions may be modified next month and garden centres can re-open. We certainly hope that is the case.

The three Cardwell directors, Stef, Drew and Kieran Gallagher have been working every day to make sure the thousands of summer bedding plants we’ve been growing in our nursery and the plants in the garden centre are in tip-top condition for when we do re-open in some form or other.

So that we can be ready if we do re-open sometime in May, we’ve been planning and putting into place measures that would make it safe for our staff and customers to come to Cardwell for all their gardening needs.

We’re talking about a system where not too many people come into the garden centre at the same time and there is signage to help with the social distancing we’re being advised to keep.

Having said that, anyone who has visited Cardwell will know we have lots of spacious areas – unlike some supermarkets and large discount stores – and it shouldn’t be a problem to keep a safe distance from other visitors.

Opening again in May would an ideal time for all you gardeners out there, as that’s when you would normally plant the summer blooms. And here’s a tip that although the sun may be shining this past week, it’s still too early for the summer bedding plants to be put in the ground, as we can still get plummeting temperatures or even a frost during the night which can kill these plants.

As well as the plants from our own nursery, we are speaking to our Scottish growing partners about having ongoing stocks of summer bedding, which helps ease the burden on them. We have a good stock of all the best products and tools to meet your gardening needs. You can be sure that when the time comes we’ll be ready to go.

Gardening really is a worthwhile activity during lockdown, as it gives people the chance to get out in the fresh air, stay active and beat any boredom from being stuck in the house.

Keep an eye on this website, our Facebook Page and Twitter feed for the most up-to-date information on when we will be re-opening.

Please stay safe and look after each other.
