Save the date!
It won’t be long now until we can re-open!
We can’t wait to welcome all our loyal customers back to Cardwell Garden Centre, on Monday, April 5.
Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon has announced garden centres can re-open on that date and our Patio Café can start serving again three weeks later on April 26.
Drew Gallagher, managing director at Cardwell Garden Centre, near Gourock said: “You could say that the announcement from Nicola Sturgeon is in the Nic of time!
“The growing season has started and people are desperate to choose the seeds and plants they want for their garden along with all the other gardening essentials they need.
“Prior to the recent lockdown, garden centres like Cardwell had essential retail status, which was a correct assessment of the important service we provide the public.
“It is only right that the Scottish Government should allow garden centres to re-open again.
“However, while we have been closed we haven’t been letting the grass grow under our feet. We’ve been busy preparing and ordering new stock and growing plants in our own nursery for re-opening and welcoming customers back to Cardwell.
“In the meantime, we have been running an online store with home delivery and a click and collect service, which will continue.
“There is real and proven physical and psychological benefits of gardening, as getting outdoors to a safe place is important to people’s health and well-being. For many people, particularly those who are shielding, a garden is the only outside space that is available to them.
“Spring is also the start of our busiest trading period of the year. So, it’s important for both the people who enjoy gardening and the sustainability of Cardwell that garden centres like ours can open as soon as possible.
“Gardeners like to see and pick their own plants and people can safely do that at Cardwell, as we have plenty open spaces and have all the anti-Covid regimes – like one-way routes around the centre, hand sanitisers, staff with masks and enhanced cleaning – in place.”
