Cardwell Wishing Tree reveals your hopes and dreams

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”11400″ img_size=”medium”][vc_column_text]HUNDREDS of visitors to Cardwell Garden Centre have revealed their hopes and dreams on a special Wishing Tree.

More than 1300 adults and children have written out their biggest wishes in life on a card and tied it to the branches of the tree, near the centre’s exit doors.

And in return the garden centre asked people to make a donation to three local charities – Ardgowan Hospice, The Underheugh Ark Animal Rescue and the CLIC Sargent children’s cancer charity.

Staff at the garden centre near Gourock have been gathering the cards from the Wishing Tree and counting the donations. About £500 has been raised for the three charities.

Cardwell’s general retail manager, Paul Carmichael said: “It’s incredible that so many people have written down what they most wish for on cards and tied them to our Wishing Tree.

“We’ve read all the cards and one thing that comes through is there are lots of kind-hearted people out there who wish peace health and happiness for others.

“There were quite a few wishes that brought a smile to our faces as well. Lots of children were wishing they could have unusual pets like a lion, unicorn, or a dinosaur. One even wished they had a shark as a pet and another wanted a ‘small, medium and one very big dragon’!

“Another wish we saw from a youngster was for all her teeth to fall out, so the tooth fairy would be a regular visitor to her house.”

Paul also revealed that there were several wishes written on cards that were very sad and almost had the staff in tears.

Some of these messages on the cards read: “I wish people could find the cure for all cancers including the one my Nana has.

“I wish my papa didn’t have cancer and my other one not to have Parkinson’s.

“I wish there was a cure for dementia.”

And one card had the heartfelt message: “To my dearest friend who took his own life…I wish you peace.”

However, there were some wishes that Paul reckoned Cardwell could make come true.

He explains: “We had a few youngsters who said they wanted to meet Santa. Well they can come along to Cardwell in a few months time and meet Father Christmas in our grotto.

“And there was a card that said ‘I wish dad has luck with his vegetable patch’. All dad has to do is come along to the centre and we’ll give him all the advice and everything he needs to make his garden grow.”

Paul adds: “But there was one card that summed up the good people who visit us and that read ‘I wish all the wishes on this tree come true’.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
