SORRY folks, but a last-minute change in the Scottish Government’s coronavirus Level 4 restrictions has meant we cannot now open as planned after Boxing Day.
Up until today, garden centres were classified as essential retail, but First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon announced in the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday afternoon that this would no longer be the case.
It’s with no little disappointment that Cardwell Garden Centre and our Patio Cafe will now have to close for the time being. Our online store will also have to close along with our food takeaway service.
But we can’t wait to open our doors again and welcome back our loyal customers. Whenever the day comes that Inverclyde moves out of Tier 4, or garden centres are again classified as essential retail, it can’t come soon enough.
Cardwell’s managing director, Drew Gallagher said: “It is hugely disappointing that at this late stage the rules have been changed and we can no longer open next week and into the New Year.
“However, we can only trust the government and their medical advisors that there is good reason for us to be closed. We understand that the most important thing just now is to get this coronavirus under control and that means if we have to make sacrifices then, so be it.
“I’d like to thank all our customers for their support during what has been a very difficult year and we’ve done our utmost to keep the centre open and safe for both our visitors and staff.”
Drew added: “I can assure everyone that we’ll not let the grass grow under our feet during this break in business and we’ll be planning an even better service and products for our customers as we all look forward to the day we can get back to normality.
“We want to make sure that come next spring and summer, when we’ve all been vaccinated, you’ll have the best garden ever to enjoy our new-found freedom!”
